Marking what would have been the 107th birthday of Hans J. Wegner, Carl Hansen & Søn continue the tradition of celebrating his contribution to design with a limited special edition of his iconic CH24 Wishbone Chair. Shaped in FSC™-certified mahogany, a rich and noble wood with a long history in furniture making, the sculptural design requires more than 100 steps to craft. The hand-woven seat alone takes a skilled craftsperson about an hour to create. A water-based high-gloss lacquer finish accentuates the rich, reddish-brown hue of the exotic hard wood while ensuring lasting protection.
Originally designed in 1949, the master cabinetmaker’s enduring design continues to delight. Offered as a collector’s item, in a special limited edition available for purchase on 8 April 2021 only.
Historically, mahogany has been used to make furniture since the 15th century, and during the 16th and 17th centuries, the exotic wood was the preferred material for furniture-making, particularly on account of its strength and stability. The Wishbone Chair in mahogany has a beautiful surface with reddish-brown hues which are accentuated and protected by a strong high-gloss lacquer that gives the chair a shiny finish.
The special edition has a small brass plate engraved with Hans J. Wegner’s signature and date of birth discreetly placed on the inside of the chair frame. It also comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Hans J. Wegner is considered one of the most creative, innovative and productive Danish furniture designers. Wegner, also known as the ‘Master of the Chair’, designed more than 500 chairs during his career – many of which are considered masterpieces. Wegner is probably best known for his iconic Wishbone Chair, which has been in continuous production since 1950.
At the heart of Wegner’s legacy is his unique ability to express the inner soul of furniture through a simple and functional exterior.
