In honor of Hans J. Wegner’s 105th birthday on 2 April 2019, Carl Hansen & Søn presents a limited edition celebratory variant of the CH24. The CH24 Birthday Edition merges an oiled walnut frame with an exclusive, goat leather seat and has never been manufactured before.
Wegner worked with Carl Hansen & Søn to create a saddle leather design in the 1990s. His vision was to create a leather seat to accompany the original paper cord seat. New technology and special techniques have now made this limited edition possible, as skilled craftsmen have developed a refined new way of working with the upholstery of the seat.
Upholstered with aniline goat leather, the soft seat has a durable and dense structure with a deep red color created in a two-step, vegetable-tan dyeing process. The result is a vibrant and natural appearance with a deeply saturated hue that patinates elegantly over time.
The Wishbone Chair was one of the first models Hans J. Wegner created for Carl Hansen & Søn, and the masterpiece has been in continuous production since its introduction in 1950. Highlighting Wegner’s heritage, every Birthday Edition Wishbone Chair bears a brass plate engraved with his signature and date of birth. A certificate of authenticity further emphasizes the luxurious quality and exclusivity of the iconic design.

Hans J. Wegner is considered one of the most creative, innovative and productive Danish furniture designers. Wegner, also known as the ‘Master of the Chair’, designed more than 500 chairs during his career – many of which are considered masterpieces. Wegner is probably best known for his iconic Wishbone Chair, which has been in continuous production since 1950.
At the heart of Wegner’s legacy is his unique ability to express the inner soul of furniture through a simple and functional exterior.
