Hans J. Wegner’s iconic CH445 Wing Chair is available in three exclusive monochrome colours until December 31st 2026. 100% wool textiles from Gabriel’s Uni collection invite a softer, more harmonious expression to the chair in Deep Burgundy, Pebble Brown and Clay white with tone-on-tone painted frames. The CH445 Wing Chair emerged from an era in Hans J. Wegner’s career in which he became more experimental with upholstery, using it to create bold, sculptural forms. With a dramatic expression that feels every bit as contemporary now as it did in 1960, the Wing Chair is a fine example of how a high-backed armchair should be according to Wegner. The chair achieves a careful balance between volume and a light visual presence, defined by gentle curves and strong lines that extend into wing-like points on either side of the backrest. Beneath the upholstered seat, a solid beech frame gives the design strength and stability. Designed for relaxed seating in a variety of positions, the upholstery’s precise shape and density are chosen to support every part of the body. The curved backrest almost wraps around the sitter, and an implied neck rest is delineated by a deeply stitched line across the back. A slender stainless steel frame invites a sense of lightness to the design and the space it inhabits. The front legs tilt slightly higher than the back, which slopes backwards to prevent tipping and encourage a deep recline.
