BM0121 | Dining Table
Material:
FSC™-certified oak, oil
Børge Mogensen designed the BM0121 Dining Table in 1952 as a solution for small living environments to seat 4-6 people. The first extendable circular table by Mogensen in the Carl Hansen & Søn collection, the table is crafted in FSC-certified solid oak and displays a particularly light expression owing to a 19mmm thick tabletop, slightly tapered legs and an upwardly curving apron. Insert leaves are available in oak or MDF.
Cabinetmaker and designer Børge Mogensen (1914-1972) created durable and simple furniture with a focus on people and is today regarded as one of the most influential representatives of Danish Modern. With a mission to make quality furniture accessible to everyone, Mogensen became known as “the people’s designer.”
Ingenious, Adaptable Design
In many ways ahead of his time, Børge Mogensen’s elegant, functional approach to design would set a precedent for Scandinavian minimalism for decades to come. Although the BM0121 Dining Table looks like a piece of contemporary design, the table was presented in 1952 at the Art and Crafts Spring Exhibition in Copenhagen as part of a democratic furniture series intended for small homes. With no original drawings in existence, Carl Hansen & Søn have recreated the BM0121 Dining Table by measuring an older, original model meticulously by hand. True to Børge Mogensen’s minimalist style and knowledge of craft, what appears to be a simple, extendable dining table reveals a number of complex details that require a high level of craftsmanship. Its light expression is achieved by a combination of a 19mm thick FSC-certified solid oak tabletop, under which bent steel profiles provide additional stability. Slightly tapered legs and an upwardly curving apron create extra leg room and the table seats up to six with an additional insert leaf, available in oak or MDF. A timeless and elegant design, the table is a flexible dining solution for small living spaces.
