ND55 | Coffee Table
Material:
FSC™-certified oak, oil
The ND55 Coffee Table was designed in 1955 by Nanna Ditzel and Jørgen Ditzel. Featuring unparalleled craftsmanship, the table’s simple expression reveals an ingenious, integrated fold-out extension, enabling the user to increase the size of the tabletop. Crafted in solid oak or walnut, the coffee table features rounded edges and elegant, brushed brass details.
Her desire to explore spaces and experiment with techniques on the edge of what is possible led Nanna Ditzel – one of Danish design’s most distinctive personalities – to become acquainted with the entire design universe. This unconventional approach to the design process, together with an extensive knowledge of the craft, spawned a range of innovative designs from jewellery to textiles and furniture. Throughout her 60-year career, Nanna Ditzel established herself as one of the most distinctive figures in Danish design. She rethought the functionalist design tradition with her imaginative expressions and left her mark on thousands of private homes and public forums.
A Sense of Play
Danish design duo Nanna Ditzel and Jørgen Ditzel possessed an unwavering confidence to push the boundaries of modern design. After the couple met at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts, they set up their design studio in 1946 with a shared vision that design should be approached with an open curiosity for experimentation. Designed in 1955 with a playful approach to functionality, the ND55 Coffee Table appears to be a simple coffee table at first glance. Further inspection reveals an ingenious and practical pull-out extension leaf, which, by lifting and pushing it across to the centre of the table, presents the opportunity for more flexibility and space. Manufactured by skilled craftsmen at the Carl Hansen & Søn factory in Denmark, the ND55 Coffee Table is available in solid oak or walnut, featuring softly rounded edges and brushed brass fittings.
