Hans J. Wegner Explores Modular Comfort
By the 1980s, Hans J. Wegner had truly solidified his reputation as a master of Danish furniture design. As one of his later pieces in the Carl Hansen & Søn collection, the modular CH280 Sofa demonstrates his continued dedication to ergonomics and craftsmanship, as well as an understanding of the shifting needs of the modern home. Created in three elements - an armrest section, a middle section and a footstool - the sofa invites relaxed conversation with effortless flexibility. In this honest design, in which nothing is concealed, Wegner presents an exposed FSC™-certified solid oak frame with a slightly curved, slatted backrest that gently reclines. A low seat and generous, hand-upholstered backrest and seat cushions make for easy lounging in this modular sofa design. Connected by a simple coupling bracket, the modular elements can be configured to accommodate a multitude of spaces.
