    Claywise

"To shape clay and create objects that others can also take pleasure in is something truly special." Under the name Claywise, Maria Suurballe creates handmade ceramics with a strong focus on quality, aesthetics, and functionality. She is a self-taught ceramicist who has built her knowledge through courses, as well as through dialogue and exchange with skilled Danish and international ceramicists. Maria works with both wheel-throwing and hand-building, creating simple, refined functional pieces in a classic Nordic design language and muted colour palette. Her work balances tradition and experimentation, resulting in ceramics that feel both timeless and relevant in a contemporary design context. With a preference for natural tones and tactile surfaces, Maria highlights the inherent beauty of the material. Her objects are made for everyday use, yet they also capture a distinct atmosphere — a sense of calm, groundedness, and timelessness. Claywise ceramics possess a quiet strength that speaks to an aesthetic.
