The CH468 Oculus Chair captures the essence of cutting-edge, modernist design, named for its distinctive eye-shaped stitching in the backrest. Designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1960, the chair was only put into production in 2010. Three special-edition monochrome colour combinations accentuate the chair’s sculptural form through elegant wool upholstery and a painted stainless-steel frame. This refined, tone-on-tone aesthetic brings a gentler, more harmonious expression to contemporary spaces. The special editions are available for order until December 31st, 2026.
Danish furniture designer Hans J. Wegner (1914-2007) is considered one of the most creative, innovative, and prolific designers of all times, renowned for his precision, great insight into craftsmanship and uncompromising approach to design. Wegner designed nearly 500 chairs in his lifetime and was often referred to as the master of the chair.

The special-edition CH468 Oculus Chair in monochrome hues takes on a softer, more contemporary character. Available until December 31st 2026, tactile 100% wool textiles in Deep Burgundy, Pebble Brown and Clay White enhance the craftsmanship of the upholstery, paired with tone-on-tone painted legs. For deeper relaxation, the accompanying CH468 Footstool is available in the same harmonious hues. Celebrated today as one of Hans J. Wegner’s most iconic lounge chairs, the CH486 Oculus Chair was almost lost to history. During a visit to Wegner’s design studio, Carl Hansen & Søn discovered the design in photographs from his archive and as a small clay model. With access to the technical drawings and a full-sized prototype manufactured in 1960, the chair finally went into production in 2010. Taking its name from the Latin ‘oculus’, meaning eye, the chair features distinctive eye-shaped stitching at the centre of a spacious backrest. The chair’s round silhouette is the epitome of sleek modernism, balancing an upholstered seat on angular stainless-steel legs. Beneath sculpted upholstery, a form-pressed veneer shell provides the stability and comfort needed to support the shoulder blades, neck and back. Combined with sloping armrests and a soft seat cushion, the Oculus Chair exudes a commanding, yet elegant presence in private and public lounge spaces.
