Designed in 1945 by Vilhelm Lauritzen exclusively for the Radio House in Copenhagen, the VLA75S Foyer Bench displays a delicate yet functional idiom. It features an upholstered cushion with handmade buttons on a slender oak frame. The VLA75S comes in two sizes, with the short version having a more compact design but the same elegant expression as the original.
Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894–1984) was one of Denmark's most influential architects of his time and helped pave the way for Danish modernism with works that stand as enduring examples of what was then a new and revolutionary style of architecture, where form follows function. Throughout his career, Lauritzen maintained the approach that architecture should be applied art for everyone – not just for the privileged few.
From Foyers to Hallways
One of three furniture pieces created in 1945 by Vilhelm Lauritzen, the Foyer Bench was initially designed for Copenhagen’s Radio House, which today houses the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Simple in its expression, the VLA75S Foyer Bench features an elegant, upholstered cushion with handmade buttons on a slender, solid oak frame. Alongside the longer, original design, Carl Hansen & Søn has adapted the bench into a more compact 131cm length so that the beauty of the original design can be enjoyed in smaller spaces; ideal for private residences, hotels and restaurants.
