Carl Hansen & Søn Presents the OW Series by Ole Wanscher in TERRA® Leather
Designed in the late 1950s and early 1960s, the OW Series is Ole Wanscher’s best-known collection. Consisting of a lounge chair with a matching footstool, a sofa and a daybed, the series exudes the hallmarks of Wanscher’s refined, minimalist idiom, in which he infused a traditional, classic expression into his modernist furniture.
Defined by delicate, slender wooden frames and generous upholstery, the OW Series reflects the characteristics of 18th-century British furniture and the vernacular of Asian, Egyptian and Greek designs that Wanscher encountered on his travels.
The OW149 Lounge Chair and OW149-2 Sofa feature slightly curved armrests, rising to a point before taking a turn downward – a trademark Wanscher feature. The front and back legs are made of roundwood timber, with the back legs curving gently outward for added stability and a more refined result.

Leather upholstery from the TERRA® collection brings a contemporary expression to Wanscher’s mid-century modern classics, available in four calming hues. The result of a collaboration between Norm Architects and Sørensen Leather, TERRA® is an innovative, aniline leather with a soft and silky matte finish. The leather is OEKO-TEX® certified and is presented in a palette of earthy colours, all of which accentuate the beautiful qualities of natural leather.

Ole Wanscher
1903 - 1985
Ole Wanscher was integral to the aesthetic and functionality of modern Danish design. Having studied under Kaare Klint, he helped shape Danish furniture design as a designer and as an educator when he took over Klint’s professorship at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.
Wanscher’s classic and contemporary designs made him popular. In 1958, the Danish newspaper Politiken wrote: “Owning a Wanscher chair is an adventure every day, and will be so even several hundred years from now, for this is how long it lasts”.
