OS111 | Begonya Pendant D500
The OS111 Begonya Pendant is a poetic design inspired by the logic of nature. Created in collaboration with award-winning designer Øivind Slaatto, the pendant achieves a harmonious balance between the organic and the man-made. The pendant’s elliptical shape is formed around an internal aluminium frame with a warm finish. A sculptural lampshade made from a lightweight, translucent material directs a soft, diffused light downwards, while filtering a gentle, ambient glow from every angle.
Øivind Slaatto is a Danish designer whose work is guided by the structures and rhythms found in nature. With particular expertise in lighting, he creates designs that unite technical clarity with atmosphere, harmony and human perception.
Nature, Geometry and Light
Designed by award-winning designer Øivind Slaatto (b.1978), the OS111 Begonya Pendant merges rational mathematics with the irregular beauty of nature. Recognised for his poetic and logical approach grounded in symmetrical geometry, Slaatto has an innate understanding of light and how to sculpt it. Taking its cue from the Begonia flower, the pendant mirrors patterns found in the botanical world, striking a careful balance between organic rhythm and technical finesse. The intentional spelling of Begonya with a ‘y’ instead of an ‘i’ draws a clear line between the man-made lamp and its floral counterpart. Demonstrating how Slaatto prioritises glare-free illumination, every cell, slat and curve is meticulously angled to diffuse harsh light. The pendant is formed around an internal aluminium frame with a warm golden finish that lends the lamp a sophisticated glow. Its defining feature is an elliptical shade made with a lightweight, translucent material. A complex network of cells individually pools the light downwards, while the transparency creates an even, 360-degree spread of ambient light. Each Begonya shade is assembled by hand by experienced craftsmen in an advanced process involving 168 carefully calibrated joining points. The production of a single lamp can take up to seven hours - a testament to the uncompromising focus on quality, precision and craftsmanship. This poetic yet functional illumination creates a warm, atmospheric focal point, adding soft texture to the surrounding space. Begonya is available in two sizes.
