Intelligent design with honest construction

The MK10041 sofa, also known as the Model 52 sofa by Mogens Koch, is based on a striking construction with Koch placing the upholstered section on a visible, solid wood frame – the seats are held firmly in place by the top row. The relatively thin padding allows for an extremely well-proportioned form and comfort. The exposed frame of the MK10041 sofa cleverly turns the construction into a feature and shows how Koch used simple, self-evident design with clean surfaces to allow for an expressive sense of order. The sofa also highlights Koch’s belief in honest design. He disliked legs that seemed to appear out of nowhere, seeing this as cheating. He also disliked using upholstery to hide cheap wood and felt that every part of a design’s construction should be of high quality. Mogens Koch's furniture set reveals some of the most elegant and important solutions to the requirements of function, comfort and aesthetics. The set is completed by the MK10040 lounge chair or Easy Chair 51.

Designer
Mogens Koch's designs reveal some of the most elegant and important solutions to the requirements of function, comfort and aesthetics. His works, from homes to monuments, building extensions, and, of course, furniture – are original examples of universal utility. Structural components and mathematics were key to Koch’s process. Traditional ornamentation for its own sake were not part of his ideology – an object’s purpose led the way. The modular concept for his Bookcase System is one of his major design successes.
