Elegant design makes folding effortless

Mogens Koch designed the MK99200 Folding Chair for a supplemental church seating contest, reinterpreting the traditional folding stool by pairing easy folding and storage functionality with modern aesthetics. The forward-thinking concept was deemed too radical in its expression at the time of its inception. In the 1960s, however, the chair began to attract design experts and gain popularity, and soon went into serial production. Uniquely self-stabilizing – the act of sitting in the chair gives it stability – the Folding Chair continues to appeal to design enthusiasts searching for a comfortable, singular form that is also the perfect design solution for smaller spaces. The chair is an elegant alternative to traditional guest seating, and is easy to set up and pack away thanks to Koch’s smart and simple folding mechanism.

Mogens Koch

Designer
Mogens Koch's designs reveal some of the most elegant and important solutions to the requirements of function, comfort and aesthetics. His works, from homes to monuments, building extensions, and, of course, furniture – are original examples of universal utility. Structural components and mathematics were key to Koch’s process. Traditional ornamentation for its own sake were not part of his ideology – an object’s purpose led the way. The modular concept for his Bookcase System is one of his major design successes.
